Have you ever asked, “What is God doing?” or why He allows seemingly bad things to happen to you? Such questions have answers.
Your frustration with God, desperation, and agitation makes sense when life seems out of control or hopeless. You want to know that God will provide for and protect you, but He doesn’t seem to do anything helpful. Many people at one time or another experience similar feelings.
What is God doing?
You, like others, naturally evaluate life from your perspective. A situation might not seem to have any suitable outcome, for example. Maybe problems with finances, relationships, time management, grief and a slew of other matters seem impossible to keep sorted. Meanwhile, God does nothing.
How do you know?
Fortunately, you have good news from God’s word. It comes from Ecclesiastes chapter 11, verse 5:
As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest not the works of God who maketh all.
Despite all the progress science has made, we do not understand all the secrets of life. A somewhat scary race to create life has portended potentially disturbing outcomes but – still – no one quite understands what constitutes life and how a human being develops inside a mother. Even if you studied voluminous knowledge that exists on the subject, you probably still would never grasp it. God is the same way.
The Preacher, in the above text, gives us wisdom from God: We do not know how God works.
God is different
We make a mistake by assuming that God thinks and behaves in ways similar to that of another human being. God is not human. As an eternal being, God transcends time. God knows everything. God has a particular end in mind for you and for the world.
That neither you nor I can comprehend the intricacies of God should help you realize that God works even when we cannot detect His presence or His actions. God told us this Himself via the Prophet Isaiah in chapter 55, verse 8 and 9 of his book in the Old Testament:
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
God’s message for you
Right now, God wants you to know a few things:
- God does work.
- God does move.
- God does care.
Although your life might not make any sense at all right now, it makes sense to God. Have confidence that He loves you as He loves everyone. God is working right now. Have faith.
Jesus best spoke God’s message for you as recorded in the New Testament book of Mark, chapter 5, verse 36:
Be not afraid, only believe.
